Our tennis club sits in the delightful surroundings of Rowntree Park close to the centre of York. Walking or cycling is a great way to get here, but if required there is a payable car park on Terry Avenue.

What's the setup here?

The Tennis Club is run entirely by volunteers & is responsible for the management & upkeep of the 6 hard courts in the Park.

The 6 courts are all bookable online. 3 Courts are dedicated to Club Members (Courts 4,5 & 6). The other 3 Courts (1,2 & 3) are available to the public to book & are also bookable by Members at a discounted rate.

The Tennis Pavilion (on the river side next to Court 1) will be developed from 15th April to July 2024 to give us 2 toilets, changing rooms & a kitchenette. This is a Tennis Club initiative funded in part by us & in part by a Council Grant.

There is also a cafe in the Park with toilets.

The Friends of Rowntree Park is a Charity whose volunteers do amazing work in the Park with gardening, litter picking and helping the wildlife. They also run community events and projects with the emphasis on education, mental health and wellbeing. Click here for more info

Our Club philosophy is that tennis is for everyone irrespective of age & ability.

But it's not only about the tennis. We have social activities happening across the year which help bring people together & form friendships.

We positively welcome new joiners & take great care to introduce them to existing Members so that they can quickly settle in.

Adult Tennis in the Park

• group (mixed) social doubles tennis 3 times per week on Thursday (6-8pm on Courts 1 to 4), Saturday (2-4pm on Courts 5 & 6) & Sunday (10-noon on Courts 3 & 4). It's a great way to meet new folks & enjoy informal & friendly tennis for players of all skill levels. Just turn up!
• Team practice sessions
• Team Tennis in the York Leagues (3 x Men's Doubles Teams, 2 x Ladies Doubles Teams, 3 x Mixed Doubles Teams). Click HERE for 2024 Fixtures
• As you get to know other members, many folks arrange informal meet ups to play social games outside of the scheduled sessions above. Typically, you will find other players of a similar level to yourself & you will improve together by playing together

Winter indoor tennis

• winter indoor social mixed doubles tennis sessions (October to March)
• winter indoor Singles League organised by Rowntree Park Club Members. This is open also to players from other Clubs

New Members

New members are very welcome at our club!  We pride ourselves on being a friendly Club and being good at helping new Members settle in quickly - from beginners to League level players. With a wide range of ages and abilities, there are group sessions for everyone. Booking courts for public use (non-Members)
